Unusual and rare 1930s chunky beaded chokers from France. These are from an estate here in Calgary and had been purchased during the 1930s while the owner’s mother was holidaying in France and brought them home as souvenirs perhaps to give away.
Although these look and feel like Bakelite, I believe they are an unrelated plastic called “Galalith” (sometimes referred to as French Bakelite) which was a milk based plastic. Once the war started and milk was rationed, production of Galalith stopped and was never restarted.
We have four chokers available in lovely earthy tones - one each in Ivory, Ivory and red, Ivory and orange, and ivory and green. They are 17” long and close with a spring ring clasp. Price is for one choker. Never worn, three still have their original tags.
