“Adeline” 1940s Wedding Dress, Size Small

I can’t tell you whether she wore this dress with a huge crinoline or simply let it fold about her gently but I can tell you that her name was indeed Adeline.  This dress was brought into the shop by one of her family members who told us that both Adeline and the dress were dearly loved and they hoped we could restore it for another bride to enjoy.  

The dress has acres of soft lovely cream lace (looks and feels like a cotton/linen blend) on a simple taffeta bodice with extended shoulders that make a short cap style sleeve.  The dress closes on the side with an 11.5” Zipper.  The skirt is fully lined and was a tea length that fell just above the ankle. The matching bolero has dolman or batwing sleeves that are 3/4 in length and are darted at the elbow to follow the natural curve of the arm.  The collar is wide in the front and disappears once around the back.  A pair of matching gauntlet gloves are also included.

We photographed the dress with a fairly small crinoline and we have also shown it with no crinoline but  wouldn’t it be grand with a big puffy one? The very last photo shows an AI version of the dress cut a little shorter and worn over a bigger crinoline just to give you an idea of how it would look.

The Adeline dress is in very good, clean, vintage condition with no stains, marks or visible repairs. The seams of the dress have been re-sewn wear the threads had deteriorated.
